the judy davis connection

In about 1982 they were filming ‘Heatwave’ in my street in Newtown. I was rollerskating down the street in my attractive white skates (I was quite a good rollerskater actually and only broke my arm once - while trying to do an arabesque on a very cracked pavement) and nearly ran down Judy Davis. Strangely, this foreshadowed an incident much later in life, where Colin Friels nearly knocked my mum over (by accident) at Stanmore cinema, and Judy Davis came to her aid. In between these two Judy Davis moments, was the time my parents’ front door was chosen to be used in the film ‘Children of the Revolution’ (perhaps Judy had remembered me from all those years ago and recommended our front door as a good one?). The final Judy Davis connection is that my mum has always proclaimed how much I look like Judy Davis. Despite the fact I weigh about 15 kilos more, am 20 years younger, have brown skin and light-brown hair. I should point out that at various times my mother has claimed that I look like Juliet Binoche, Elle MacPherson, Kasey Chambers and KD Lang – although the Judy Davis comparison has been firm throughout. Ya gotta love Mums, don’t ya.
